MAC September Student Spotlight: Abby

Fall is a super busy, and super fun, time here at Mono Arts, as we have lots of artists in the schools teaching music and visual arts classes around Mono County. We talked to a brand new Kindergarten student at Mammoth Elementary about why she loves art, and why it maters to her! She told us she was an artist in the first 5 minutes of our art class this week - and we love that!

Why do you love Art?

Every day after school I always draw a picture, and every day in the morning before school too. Except when I sleep in by accident.

There’s always something new to do in art and I always learn more about art when I do it.

What is a favorite piece of art you have created?

I have a very special one that my mom put in a reused frame. It’s a picture of a spiral with some flowers in between the lines - it’s blue and green and purple. I made it at home.

What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?

I would say I’ll teach you how to make a masterpiece - better than an artist! Also because doing art gives them more ideas for more art to make things - just like an artist.

Do you have a favorite artist?

Monet - because I love everything about art and I love his pictures of flowers. I went to see a Monet exhibit at an art museum in Chicago.

Do you think art is important? Why?

It is! Because some art is worked very hard on and that means the artist did a lot of work to make it.
