MAC June Student Spotlight: Larisa

For this month's Student Spotlight, we went out to Horseshoe Lake during our first week of Art + Nature Camp to talk to our very first CAMPERS of the summer! Larisa is a 10 year old camper headed to MMS this fall, and here's what she had to say:

What is your favorite kind of art?

My favorite kind of art is Watercolor because it's so easy to do, and you just use water to make your colors. Watercolor is more fun than acrylic because you can spread and mix the colors easily. And it's easy to clean up!

Do you have a favorite piece of art you have created?

A favorite piece of art I've made was when we sat outside Shady Rest and looked us for things to paint. I found a pinecone, and I painted the pinecone, the grass and the rock. I did it last summer with miss Kristi - and I still have it!

What would you say to a friend who wasn't interested in art?

I would say "How dare you!?!" Art is full of fun and colors and art can make you more patient.

(Note: There were several campers who weighed in on this one; everyone of them agreed that the most obvious response to someone who isn't interested in art would be that they're CRAZY!!!)

Why do you think art matters?

Art matters because you can paint your emotions and creativity. It doesn't matter if it's good, because if it makes you happy it doesn't matter!
