MAC January Student Spotlight: Charlie

Happy 2025! To start off this year, we talked to Charlie, a 6th grader at Lee Vining Elementary. Charlie spoke to MAC Teaching Artist, Peggy Armenta, who teaches music to all of our Eastern Sierra Unified School District students. As a 6th grader, Charlie is learning the Ukulele at LVES right now, but she's clearly interested in ALL forms of art! So are we, Charlie!

What kinds of art do you love?

I love crazy art. I love to paint with watercolors. I love jazz and hip-hop. Jazz is really sassy and hip hop is really energetic and it makes me feel  jumpy and happy.

Do you have a favorite piece of art you have created?

The big face art project we did this year!

(Pictured here - Charlie is talking about the MAC Create with the Greats class that we did on Fernando Botero, a Colombian artist who exaggerated scale when he painted).

What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?

If you are interested, then it's really fun.

Do you think art is important? Why?

Yes, because sometimes it can help you feel better.

What art form, or what do you love to create the most?

Dance!

Anything else you think we should know?

I'm really happy when we have art to do in class.
