We continue to highlight our new Board Members because they are all so wonderful! This month we talked to our new Board Member, Lauren Dore. Lauren is very involved in the community of June Lake and serves on the Board of Sierra Stem, the June Lake Little Loopers, and the June Lake Women's Club.

1. What is your connection to the arts? Are you an artist yourself or do you have a particular interest in the arts?
While I don't consider myself an artist in the traditional sense, I've always admired the creative process and the incredible power of art. I believe art is everywhere! In our daily lives, in nature, and all around us. It's what makes the world feel beautiful and magical, adding depth to the ordinary. Art has a way of enriching our experiences and connecting us to something larger than ourselves.
2. What is your favorite art medium and why is it your favorite?
My favorite art medium would be words, whether through literature, poetry, spoken word, or music. There's something profoundly moving about how words can paint pictures in our minds. They have the power to evoke emotions, tell stories, and create vivid images. The way words can shape reality is truly fascinating to me.
3. If you could learn any arts medium, what would it be? Why?
If I had the chance to learn a new art form, I would love to try painting. It seems so calming and expressive to me. There’s something therapeutic about the process of bringing a blank canvas to life with color and form. It feels like a pure way to channel emotions and creativity.
4. What is your favorite part of your role as a MAC Board Member?
As a new member, I'm still exploring my place within the MAC Board, but what excites me the most is the opportunity to spread the word about the incredible programs MAC offers to our community. I'm also deeply passionate about helping sustain educational programs that make a real difference, especially in the lives of children. The ability to contribute to something so meaningful is truly rewarding.
5. Why do you think the arts are so important right now?
The arts have always been essential, offering a means of expression, reflection, and inspiration throughout history. In today’s world, I believe they are even more crucial. The arts provide a way to reconnect with our true selves and communicate in ways that transcend the limitations of a society that can often feel disconnected. Art has the power to bring people together, sparking conversations and fostering understanding. In a time when many of us are caught up in the noise of technology, the arts offer a unique outlet to express our emotions and experiences. They give us a valuable release and help us process the world around us in meaningful ways.
