MAC Board Member Spotlight: Sarah Keith

We are thrilled to bring back our Board Member Spotlights as we work to rebuild our Board of Directors. This month we talked to our new Board Secretary, Sarah Keith. Not only has Sarah volunteered her time to serve on the board, but she sells her ceramics in our Gallery, teaches hand-building ceramics through both Art & Wine and Community Programs, and soon will be teaching for our Create With the Greats Program.

1. What is your connection to the arts? Are you an artist yourself or do you have a particular interest in the arts?

I can’t remember a time when my life wasn’t completely consumed with the arts. From theater, to tv, from play dough and water colors, to ceramics, every turn that my life has taken has been met with a new artistic venture, my latest being ceramics and my new involvement with MAC..

2. What is your favorite art medium and why is it your favorite?

The love I have found in ceramics has surpassed any previous artistic infatuation that I’ve had. I once thought musical theater was my one true love, but when my life took a dramatic change, I found myself engulfed in ceramics and losing myself… and finding myself… making pottery.

3. If you could learn any arts medium, what would it be? Why?

I wish I could paint. Like really paint. Or be a pop star. That would be fun.

4. What is your favorite part of your role as a MAC Board Member?

I am so excited to be on the MAC board. My husband and I are both artists and, shockingly, are raising two very artistic children, so the arts continue to be at the center of our universe and I believe that everyone in our community should have the same exposure and access to the arts. The responsibility and privilege of making art accessible to our community, especially in our schools, is something I don’t take lightly.

5. Why do you think the arts are so important right now?

I believe art serves as a reflection of its time, capturing the uncertainties and complexities of the world around us. In an era filled with challenges, its significance feels more profound than ever. Personally, the solace I found in learning a new art form became a powerful tool for processing grief, offering both healing and clarity. Regardless of age, background, or inherent talent, the sense of purpose and therapeutic value that art provides can be immeasurable.
