This month, we are pleased to feature Eleanor for our Back to School Spotlight! Eleanor is a 4th grader at Mammoth Elementary. Here's what she had to say about what she's excited for the upcoming school year:
What kind of art do you do?
All kinds - but I especially love writing! I’m writing a chapter book.
Why do you think art is important?
I think art is important because it makes you more aware of yourself.
Why do you love art?
I like writing because it’s a way to get away from all the drama and it’s a way to let loose. Also because you can express yourself, and that’s important because it’s your piece of art, and you created it - and everything came from your mind and your mind only.
Why are you excited about programs like Create with the Greats?
I like how they (the teaching artists) give you directions, but they let you imagine how to do those directions and how to make it somethings that’s more you than anything else. If you’re doing a famous art drawing, you need to make it a bit more you. You’re not just trying to copy what they did.
What are you excited about for this year?
I’m excited to do creative writing and have creative ideas for art. We already did self portraits and poems in school, and l I feel like we’re going to be able to do creative learning and I’m going to be able to put some of my life into my writing and my art.
What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?
It’s a way for you to get out of your life and a way for you to make any of your own creations and anything you can imagine.
