Creativity flourishes with MAC’s Arts in Education programs for children!
Mono Arts Council offers Free Kids Summer Art Camps, After School Art Clubs and the Meet the Masters Program for children of Mono County and visitors.
MAC’s Kids Summer Art Camp was developed 8 years ago to offer children engaging and fun options for summer activities. Local and visiting children ages 5-18 participate in a highly creative summer art camp. They produce original art, such as mosaics, printmaking, ski making basics, drawing, cyanotypes, photography, haiku poetry, ceramics and more; all taught by local professionals. Through our After School Art Clubs, students in Mono County are exposed to art they may not receive in school.
Some of our recent Art Clubs include the Amazing Vox Performance Project, Mural Paintings, and Ceramics. MAC has been facilitating the Meet the Master’s program in every Mono County elementary school for 6 years. Master artists such as Kahlo, Picasso, and Van Gogh are taught to students with some art history and an art project based on the Master artist’s work. We are grateful to Mono County Office of Education for funding this valuable art program.
Currently, there are no art teachers in any Mono County elementary school. The only way grade school children receive true art instruction is through MAC. Through a variety of Arts in Education programming, we teach children real art skills that they will retain for life.
